Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed #129 and Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed #130.

Gail Simone in the New York Times. Go Gail!

Thank you, Brian.

Bully on what is lost when you wait for the trade.

Please Order Now: Spider-Man Family #7 is a tribute to Mike Wieringo.

ARGH. Diamond is screwing around with their website again, making things harder to find if you are used to direct links to, say, the Shipping Lists.

The Numb3rs production crew have good manners. I'm going to go through that episode much more closely to see if I can recognize any publishers.

Fox has found writers for 24 (YouTube) during the strike. Speaking of, reports indicate that the strike talks are going well, but there is no confirmation yet.

AWWWWW! How Sweet! How Romantic! Neil Gaiman rocks! Watch the video:

I have been meaning to learn Dvorak for some time. This zine has me trying again. I got the link from Boing Boing, be sure to read the comments for lots of pros and cons about trying Dvorak. If nothing else, learning Dvorak would be a fun mental exercise, which would be my main reason for learning it.

People believe that NASA is funded as well as the military, which might explain why some are idiotically opposed to NASA despite its tiny impact on the national budget.

Cheap, printable solar power is on the way. I'll believe it when it's powering my house, but I live in hope.

Just Go Look. Very cool images.

First, read this, then read this. I want one now. Ok, not now, but someday.

Monopoly saved lives in WWII.

Two-minute football game. Time-lapse photography of a game at Lambeau Field. Halftime was interesting.

How to Stop Restaurant Tip Fraud. I was unaware it was going on, personally, since I don't really go out that much. Be sure to read the comments, in particular this one.

Smile.

A week later, and Scoble isn't as impressed with Kindle anymore.

Coming Soon (DC Solicits for July)

Solicits for DC Comics due to ship in July 2007 have been posted on various websites: Comic Book Resources, Newsarama, Comics Continuum, IGN, ComicList, and The Official DC Site. Here's the Aquaman stuff I spotted:

The Human Flying Fish?!???

Anyone spot any other Aquaman-related books?

Really Rapid Reviews

These are mini-capsules: about one sentence per book with whether or not I recommend the book.

31 January 2007

52 Week Thirty-Nine: "Powers & Abilities": Yay! Aquaman appearance! The rest... eh, so-so. Mildly recommended.

Ion #10: "Tales of the Green Lantern": Ah, the multiverse! And a new way of travelling in it! Interesting stuff. Recommended.

JSA Classified #22: "Fire and Ice!": If I wanted a Hawkman/Hawkgirl tale, I'd buy the Hawkbook. As I want a JSA tale, this is a disappointment. Not recommended.

These are the only books on my list that arrived at my store on Wednesday. Yup, we got screwed by Diamond again. I might get the rest this weekend, we'll see. Otherwise, it's a big week next week.

Coughing, Hacking, Sneezing...

I made a quick run to the comic shop, but half the shipment was misshipped or something, and there wasn't much to pick up. I did get the latest "52", which is good as it features Aquaman in a very tiny cameo.

My throat goes from mildly irritated to massively painful in just a couple of minutes now. I'm gulping down bucketloads of lemon ginger tea, but when I'm not drinking hot tea I'm in pain. I'm tired of being miserable.

I apologize to anyone who reads this blog via RSS. I want to take full advantage of the tag/label function, and so I've been going back and adding tags to old posts. I originally thought it wouldn't send those posts to the RSS feed... but I was wrong. So I turned off the feed, updating the tags, then turned the feed back on... but it still flooded the feed. ARGH!!!

My kitchen light is out. It's a florescent light, and it turns on but has a lovely headache-inducing flickering effect and gives out almost no actual light. This makes it incredibly difficult to cook anything. Worse is trying to wash dishes, since the dishwasher is in a corner with no light at all. So I called some local electricians and finally managed to get ahold of a live one instead of an answering machine. He could send someone out, sure... 6:30 am tomorrow. Yikes. Still, I like the idea of it possibly being fixed in time for making breakfast, and I'm not going to be able to tolerate it much longer broken anyway. Ok, what the heck. I've already set my alarm for 6 am.

Unfortunately, this means hubby-Eric and I are headed for a very financially tight month. I'm looking at putting up his Green Lantern stuff on eBay a little earlier than originally planned in the hopes that it'll keep us afloat. This puts our summer plans in jeopardy as well... I really want to go down to the Winkie convention with Eric this year, but it may not happen.

Speaking of conventions, tickets are now on sale for the Emerald City Comicon. At the moment, I plan to attend both days. I'll probably be with my "twin" sister for the first day and hubby-Eric the second. I hope to see other Seattle area folk there...

Last Linkdump of 2006

Diamond screws over the West Coast yet again. Last week it was most of the DC books not delivered to the West. Next week it's Civil War. Can't we break up the Diamond monopoly? Oh yeah... that's been tried.

The Bad Astronomer celebrates New Year by completely confusing the issue. Ok, I admit I followed most of his explanation. But it's still a bit much.

Augie tells us that mileage estimates are about to be calculated using realworld scenarios, instead of ideal scenarios. This is a good thing, as more realistic numbers will lead to better understanding of fuel consumption by the average driver. I can dream.

Here's a good rant about children reading, and how reading is perceived as they grow older. It's not enough to teach children to love reading, we need to teach them that it's cool to read too. I was lucky... I grew up in a family that loves books and both my parents read to me. There was never any negative comments about reading, and I could always weedle a book out of my dad if I tried hard enough.

Bully's Fantastic Christmas Part 7. What will Bully do with all his money gone?!?? And, up early (for me): Bully's Fantastic Christmas Part 8.

Superhero Costume contest winners.

Heidi is angry at Diamond, again.

Thanks to Blogshares, I've found a comic book blog that I had not noticed until now. I found this entry to be fascinating, part for the history and part for me learning that Jonah Hex met Mormons (I was raised Mormon).

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Mallard Fillmore strip actually slightly funny due to related events.

America's health care system is screwed up beyond belief.

Thursday Links

Heidi writes an open letter to Diamond after they fail to deliver comics to her local shop for the third time in four weeks. And then she got a response. Sort of.

Mimi responds to my Seven Sons review, with some kind words and a bit of dismay. Hey, I always give free stuff a chance. And if I hadn't, I wouldn't have read this one, and I would still be bothered by it. So it's a good thing.

Dennis the Menace mashed up with Fight Club, with more here.

Canada changes stance on Lost Girls.

Alan Moore on the Simpsons.

Why do people blog?

MetaFilter finds a complaint about Walmart that actually puts me on Walmart's side.

Puppy Crop Circle.
