I just returned from the doctor's office, where I was probed, poked, shot, blooded, burned, and swabbed. I hate annual physicals.
Suppose you've just had your first child. And you are an art collector. What could be more natural than starting a sketchbook for baby? After you've looked at the pictures, you can see the baby, too.

"Apr 27, 1521, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan was killed by natives in the Philippines."

Ay-yi-yi-yi
Oops, Magellan
Your fun little journey’s
Become a nightmare
Whoopie ti-yi-yo
Keep trying, Magellan
You’ll find the East Indies
You just don’t know where
They sailed due west
To the Philippine Islands
Magellan was pleased
As the natives drew near
But then someone shouted,
“I think they’re attacking!”
Magellan said, “What?”
And got hit by a spear.
Ah, I loved the Animaniacs.

Update: I love seeing this (emphasis mine): SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR SEATTLE METROPOLITAN AREA (...) THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED THIS AFTERNOON FROM SNOHOMISH COUNTY NORTHWARD THIS AFTERNOON. THE STRONGEST STORMS THUS FAR HAVE OCCURRED NEAR THE CANADIAN BORDER FROM BLAINE EAST TO SUMAS. AT 230 PM THERE WAS A REPORT OF A FUNNEL CLOUD NEAR SUMAS AND THIS REPORT WAS SUPPORTED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR. THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE INTO THE EVENING HOURS ACROSS THE NORTHWEST INTERIOR...THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL CASCADES AND IN THE VICINITY OF THE PUGET SOUND CONVERGENCE ZONE IN SOUTHERN SNOHOMISH AND NORTHERN KING COUNTIES. ADDITIONAL FUNNEL CLOUDS ARE POSSIBLE THIS EVENING WITH THE STRONGEST STORMS. I'll point out that I live in Northern King County, just a few blocks south of Snohomish county. In other words, they are predicting them to hit ME.
Update: The storm is over us now, loud and rumbling. I have only seen one flash of lightning, and that was far away. The sun has also come out, and a moment ago there was hail. It knocked down a lot of pinecones, so it looked like it was pouring ice and pinecones from the sky. The house has shaken a couple of times, and at one point the rain was blowing sideways into out front window... which has a decent-sized porch protecting it, not to mention the trees, so it was really blowing. Every time I think it's stopped, another rumble comes along.
