I'm reading every Aquaman solo adventure in publication order, one per day. After I read each story I'm going to post the cover/splash page and a few thoughts on the story.
Aquaman interrupts an argument on a ship, and is informed by the captain that the professor who chartered his ship is working for whalers.
This is a bit of a scattershot type of story, with a series of adventures that are tied together very lightly by the overall theme of "save the whales". Very odd that the folks trying to save the whales are whalers who want to increase the number of whales and protect their harvest. Captain Trawler doesn't want to help the professor when he learns that he works for whalers because, as he says, "I was a whaler years ago, in the North Atlantic and Pacific... and I saw what happened to the critters. Almost killed off, they was, by greedy men... I gave it up... swore I'd never harpoon another whale."
Aquaman doesn't seem very sympathetic, but in the end he protects the professor and lets him gather data to protect the whales. But first he has to save whales from orcas, swordfish, and whalers himself. Plus an iceberg gets involved. Just to make things even more odd.
Finny Friends Report: Aquaman gets octopuses to plug the holes in the ship while the crew repairs it. Aquaman saves whales from killer whales and a swordfish. Then he has whales push the whalers' boat to a patrol ship.
Captured/Knocked Out report: Aquaman is never captured or knocked out in this tale.
Quotefile: Aquaman, to killer whale, "You with the teeth... lay off." and "My, what a job a dentist would have with you."
Have you read this story? What do you think?
