I'm reading every Aquaman solo adventure in publication order, one per day. After I read each story I'm going to post the cover/splash page and a few thoughts on the story.
A shrewd scientist figures out a way to mine uranium on the ocean floor, but some pirates decide to hijack the load.
This is a fairly straightforward tale. A scientist and his crew are mining for uranium, successfully, on the sea floor. Somehow, a ship of crooked gamblers finds out about the mining effort and decides to hijack the ore. Aquaman arrives just as the action starts and saves the miners. Then he goes after the gamblers, who know enough to wear lead-lined clothing around radioactive materials, but don't know that it glows (thus leading Aquaman to them) or that it messed with their navigation system.
The title comes from the fact that the ship has a ghostly glow once it's loaded with the uranium ore. The miners aren't wearing any obvious protective clothing, but the gamblers put on lead-lined goggles and clothes that don't cover their faces or hands. Methinks all of these guys are likely to have troubles in the future.
Finny Friends Report: Fish tell Aquaman about the radioactive sea floor.
Captured/Knocked Out report: One of the crooked gamblers hits Aquaman as he's investigating the miners' dome. They trap Aquaman inside the dome with the doomed miners.
Quotefile: Butch, to his crew, "We're going to hijack a load of uranium!" Generic thug, in response, "Uranium? What's that boss?"
Have you read this story? What do you think?
