I'm reading every Aquaman solo adventure in publication order, one per day. After I read each story I'm going to post the cover/splash page and a few thoughts on the story.
Shooting stars are attacking ships on the high seas, and Aquaman goes to warn the Floating Observatory of pirates.
There was no Aquaman story in Adventure #118.
The whole idea of a floating observatory is ... well ... I hate to say it, but it seems to me that it's ridiculous. The observatory platform itself would have to be kept absolutely still. I just don't think that gyroscopes would manage that feat. And the idea that the thugs could use the telescopes, designed to look at stars, to find victims also seems pretty unlikely. I wonder if the writer remembered the curvature of the Earth?
This does have a lovely splash page. I particularly like the face in the moon. And the whole thing with tying Aquaman to a missile is pretty amusing, too.
Finny Friends Report: A giant octopus frees Aquaman from the missile by squeezing it so the ropes slacken. A group of incredibly lively starfish help Aquaman by attacking the legs of the thugs.
Captured/Knocked Out report: Aquaman is kicked in the face by the crime boss while being held by his thugs. He's tied to a dud missile and launched.
Quotefile: Aquaman, "Since this is an observatory, I invited some star fish!"
Have you read this story? What do you think?
