Exhaustion

Last night I heard the cat scratching in his upstairs litter box. I listened for awhile, and realized abruptly that it had been going on for over ten minutes. So I groggily climbed out of bed to check on the cat only to realize it wasn't the cat at all, it was rain hitting the window loudly.

Now utterly confused by sleep and some strange notion of checking on the cat, I headed downstairs to see if I could find the beast. I checked in the normal places, certain I could hear him, then realized he was following me around to see why I was up so late.

I pet him and cuddled him a bit, then realized I had checked on him because of something he hadn't actually been doing, so I headed back upstairs while the cat followed and went back to bed. The noise of the rain hitting the window continued, and I didn't get much sleep.

This morning I nearly called in sick to work, I was that exhausted. But reporters can't just call in, I had a story to write about a meeting I had attended, and some of the stuff from Bonnie Dunbar day had to be finished off. So I struggled to wake up and got myself to work. Right after I finished all my deadline stuff, I told the editor I needed a nap and he allowed me to go home for a four-hour lunch break. I got a little much-needed rest with Eric there to wake me if I failed to get up in time to go back to work.

I finished off the regular work day with some catching up on work I had been putting off for a bit, and in a few minutes I'm headed out to another meeting I'm covering. I also worked yesterday evening because of the meeting, and was in early yesterday morning because of our planned coverage of the Dunbar dedication. And I worked a few hours on Saturday, as well. So my extra long lunch break is covered.

This is the glamorous life of a community reporter...

Ah, but just think, dear. In a mere nine days, I get to whisk you away from all this exhaustive glamor and take you to a far-off, enchanted land called California. Where you can take pictures for your paper... Er, this isn't quite working out as nicely as I'd hoped it would...
