Trying to do a little catch-up, probably will fail. I'm so busy writing all the time I no longer have time to write.
This week's movie was The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones Chapter 16: Tales of Innocence (1917-18) - Indy is a rival to Ernest Hemingway? And then joins the foreign legion? Funny and dramatic in the same adventure. The contrast of Hemingway and Indy fighting over a young lady with the later innocent flirtation with Edith Wharton made this one work as a movie, even if the dates were technically off. Another good one.
Here are reviews of the DCBS comic books that I've gotten around to reading and reviewing, sorted by the original shipping date:
- Feb 8th
- Powers #8 - Complicated, and made harder to understand by the long gaps between issues, but still strangely compelling.
- Northlanders #48 - Bit brutal in parts, but a nice set up for the rest of the tale.
- Mister Terrific #6 - Still something off about this book, but this issue wasn't bad.
- Green Lantern #6 - Hal finally adjusts to his lanternless state... and along comes Sinestro? This issue was a jolt, to see the worst possible thing for Hal being the return of the ring.
- Resurrection Man #6 - Ah, Mitch breaks out of Arkham, the only way he can. Liked it.
- Batman: The Brave and the Bold #16 - Wow I hate Bat-Mite.
- Doctor Who Classic Series IV #1 - Nice little locked-door mystery with a bit of silliness.
- SpongeBob Comics #7 - Yay, Mermaid Man!
- Peanuts #2 - Not bad at all. In fact, some really good stuff in here.
- Feb 15th
- Grimm Fairy Tales Presents the Library #4 - Yup, it's sticking to the formula a bit, but adding to it. Not bad.
- Green Lantern Corps #6 - Creative use of prisoners. Particularly nasty use, but creative.
- Young Justice #13 - Ah, this one is all about Aqualad, even when it isn't. Yay!
- Fables #114 - Sinister. And a little bit of Oz at the end.
- Feb 22nd
- Aquaman #6 - Aquawoman kicks butt! And I like Jennifer, as well.
- Green Lantern: New Guardians #6 - It's freaky to see the spectrum of lanterns working together. Not sure I like it.
- No Place Like Home #1 - Another dark version of Oz, sort of, but a new angle, it appears. More horror than fantasy. Eh, I'm doomed to read every take on Oz out there.
- Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz #5 - Ah, land of the wooden gargoyles. Fun stuff.
- Feb 29th
- Usagi Yojimbo #144 - A nice straightforward ending to the story of soy sauce.
- Justice League #6 - Eh. I hope that bit with Pandora means they're going to bring back the real DCU sometime.
- Batman Beyond Unlimited #1 - A little bit of Aquagirl, but she's on monitor duty? *sigh*
- Tiny Titans #49 - Plenty of Aqualad in this one! Aw yeah, Aqualad!
- Mar 7th
- Justice League International #7 - And it all falls down.
- Doctor Who Classic Series IV #2 - Neat little mystery. And in comic book form it works out as a done-in-one. Nice.
