Thursday, Post New-Comics Day

A note to start: my last linkdump began with a rant about spoilers being posted in the headline of an article on ComicList. I was extremely annoyed at the time, and I'm still a bit miffed about having the pleasure of the surprise ending ruined for me by that site. However, in the comments to my note, Charles LePage, the owner of the site in question, apologized and promised to do better in the future. He came across as polite and considerate, despite my snarky reply to him. While I still think I will not re-add his site to my feed (I have far too many sites to read as it is), I have pretty much forgiven Charles. Now, have I forgiven DC for releasing that information to the press before I could get the comic? Not really, but my opinion is worthless in that argument.

Fans are raising funds to help David Pirkola, a comic retailer who was robbed and then shot in his shop. As a small business owner, he has no insurance. If you have a couple of dollars to donate, please do. This guy needs the help.

Big Bird is a Dinosaur.

ComicMix points us to a fan video of scenes from the Christmas episode of Doctor Who. This is from the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas episode, not the previous ones.

How would LOL: The Gathering work?

I do believe that LEGO Wesley was made by David Oakes, who made my custom Aquaman LEGO minifigs.

I really wish I had the equipment to do this. I would love to be able to make my own chocolate.

Fashion... or gang sign?

I've always hated hard lemonade, because I don't drink alcohol and I hate having to make sure that what I'm ordering is actually lemonade and not alcohol. I suspect the father in this article dislikes hard lemonade even more than I do.

Blogging from Mt Everest during a crackdown on protesters.

I've always hand-coded my HTML, and I'm not the only one.

More LOLCat Theology.

Linkdump

Trying to get back into gear, here's a little linkdump for you...

ComicMix now has online comics. They've started the second part of their initiative. It was a good sight with just the articles and podcasts, it is now getting better. The first offering: "GrimJack: The Manx Cat".

Comic Book Urban Legends Revealed #122.

Greg Hatcher looks at witches in comic books.

Katie Cook has a great gallery of her artwork up, which includes this wonderful Aquaman and Tempest from a card set:

Aquaman and Tempest Cards

Via Blog@Newsarama. Be sure to check out the rest of the gallery. There's some good Doctor Who stuff there, too.

More on the Eightball flap. I checked out Ice Haven from the library, and didn't see anything that qualified as porn in it. Disturbing, maybe even disgusting, but not porn. I think that girl's parents are just a wee bit oversensitive.

Morgan on Sarah Jane Adventures. I loved it. It's definitely aimed at children, but that's a positive in my book. I love Doctor Who. I like Torchwood. And Sarah Jane is great as well.

Saving a Seattle Denny's Restaurant. I just drove by that Denny's the other day, noticed the land use proposals, and felt a pang of regret that we would be losing this great goofy building. And on a similar note: Free Ballard! (links via Vintage Seattle)

I don't know how to categorize this story, but I found it worth reading.

Why Knockoffs are good for Fashion.

Way cool Baseball Stats Slide Rule ad on Polite Scott's blog. By coincidence, Slashdot had an article on Slide Rules recently.

More on the Peruvian Meteorite.

Oooh, Bio-Optic Organized Knowledge device.

Darn. I wanted to get one of these, but I won't have enough money in time to get one. Maybe they'll make the offer available again later.

Mark Twain wanted to defeat copyright limits, but his plan was intelligent and useful, instead of the Disney way of changing the law.

Vintage Seattle shows off the Seahawks in the Kingdome. Cool!

Linkdump

ComicMix rolling out Phase II.

ACLU does webcomics. Sadly, they mix superheroes into the mix. But the art is good.

Sava draws Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman.

RFID Implants linked to tumors in animals. Maybe getting Fido "chipped" isn't such a good idea, after all?

Tree image found in tree!

Sleestaks in the library. BWAH-HA-HA-HA-hA!!!

London cabbies are really smart, or they couldn't find their way.

My worst nightmare: spiders work together to build giant web. Eeeeek.

Scott Adams wants us all to invest in giant penises in the desert.

Six Rainbows Across Norway.

Holy Pasta Week
Sep 15-19 is "Holy Pasta Week"
Plan your menus now.

Holy Pasta Week starts TOMORROW!!! I don't think the Italian Pasta Boycott will affect the holiday, but make sure you have this week's pasta handy.

Lunk a Dimp, Lunk a Dimp

People are getting ready for this weekend: Illusive Arts and Jeff Parker just to name a couple.

Colleen Doran has more on 300. Have I mentioned lately that I really like Colleen Doran's blog?

Mike Gold is a Luddite. Or so he sort of says. But hey, I love my cell phone precisely because I can turn it off so easily if I want to.

Also from Mike: Is Song of the South going to finally be released? I would love to see a good treatment of the movie, with plenty of information along with it to put in it context.

Cool Barcode Doormat.

Saturn is strange. There's a hexagon at the North Pole and an eye at the South Pole.

Two 14-year-old schoolgirls test the vitamin C content of various juices, and find out one juice maker was lying about the amount of vitamin C in their product. GO GIRLS!

Why an eBook reader won't displace books. I would buy a $20-50 eBook reader, but not a $200-300 one.

The Farewell Dossier. What happens when you spy and are caught at it.

The Blog Death Threat made the BBC News.

Links and Domain Move Update

ComicMix has now gone live, after defeating the gamma rays, apparently.

Bully's ten of a kind: Skeletons!

And the domain change to gjovaag.com continues. I've got most of the stuff from eskimo either moved to new places or backed up on my laptop, and I'm starting to put up redirect pages on eskimo now. My new e-mail, which matches my name, is fully active and utterly spamless so far. That won't last long, I suspect. It's nice to have my own domain... I set up a new address for my eBay auctions so I wouldn't lose them in the piles of spam. Anyway, the images on my sidebar now all reside on my new server, and my little quote scripts all go to gjovaag.com too. There will be some broken links as I continue to go through and fix things, but for the most part I'm actually up and running on the new domain!

Once again, for anyone coming in late, the new URL for the Aquaman page is aqua.gjovaag.com, which is much shorter than the old one, but a little harder to spell. Other subdomains will be listed at gjovaag.com as I get them fully up-and-running.
